ARTILLERY USAGE *************** The concept of map-based artillery and teamwork required to use that artillery, combined in a single map is probably unhead of in Firearms. Of course, this map (Firebase) can never be played with public regulars because it will turn into deathmatch. People simply care too much about killing and K:D ratios, and not enough about actual objectives to sit down and properly defend. However, in a clan practice or clan match, the theory here is simple. If you want the artillery firepower, you have to take one of your defense men off the front lines and send him into the bunker to call artillery (then coordinate the actual attacks by communicating). That's not only there for teamwork, but the radios and whatnot take up r_speeds and I didn't want to have them in an outside bunker where they'd be causing increased FPS drop. Now, onto how artillery functions in this map: There are 4 radios. Each radio can call some kind of map-based strike. Each radio is labelled. There is an "Airstrike" radio, an "Artillery barrage" radio, and two mortar strike radios (left and right). - The airstrike is a powerful attack, but it's short. It has the advantage that all 28 shots land twice as fast as the other attacks, and the strike is usually pretty closely grouped. Sometimes it'll have two groupings. So the airstrike is a decent attack, but it takes 60 seconds for the fighters to get on target. So it isn't instant. It also will hit only the "brush" and nothing else. Re-use time: 5 minutes. - The artillery barrage is slower than the airstrike and takes much longer to "reload" after use. 13 minutes to be exact. So call it wisely. It lands 70 shots and will hit everything inbetween the base of the hill and the far edge of the map. However, artillery barrages are instant, and do not have the 60 second delay of the airstrikes. - The mortar attacks can be used tactically. They can hit the left side of the map, OR the right side, or both at the same time. But, they're weak attacks landing only a few shells, and they do it over a large square of terrain. The advantage is they can be "reloaded" faster than either the artillery barrage or the airstrike. Re-use time: 4 minutes.
