** INTRODUCTION ** Title : Talos. Date : 3rd August 1999 Filename : Gustavo5_Talos.bsp Filesize : 3mb, or thereabouts. Author : Keved, my Half-Life deathmatch/TFC alias is Gustavo. Email Address : keved@keved.force9.co.uk (preferably), or keved@hotmail.com Home Page : http://www.keved.force9.co.uk ABOUT THE MAP/ME: Talos is my fifth FPS map. Previous maps... Penitentiary (deathmatch, released 5-March-1999). Maximillian (HL teamplay primarily/also deathmatch, released 15-May-1999). Maximal (command point TFC, released 8-July-1999). Mad Bucking Fastards (deathmatch, released 27-July-1999). NOTE: Talos is the "official" release of MadBF. Basically, the central feature in MadBF, the cage/weaponstrip procedure, proved to be too unorthodox. Rather than scrap the project I decided to abandon the playtests & release MadBF as it stood (in a FULLY working & playable state, albeit "unofficial" and NOT for review by map review websites) and revamp the map into something more standard & release it under an alternative name. The result; Talos, which features most of MadBF's layout and a little more besides, and replaces the cage/weaponstrip procedure with a now-standard Crossfire style nuke. MadBF tried to throw something different into the standard 'run & shoot' deathmatch mix...disappointing that it didn't come off fully. Who am I? I'm 24 yrs old, English, & currently work for an Architectural Practice in NW England. Started playing/mapping FPS this year (1999), so am not a Quake/TF/Quake2/etc multiplayer veteran. CREDITS TO: 1) Valve/Sierra. 2) Sean Cavanagh for the Zoner compiling tools. 3) Wally, the program that creates wad texture files. 4) http://www.planethalflife.com/texturestudio & Unreal for the custom textures. 5) The playtesters. 6) Records, for salvation from radio/tv hell. ** PLAY INFORMATION ** SINGLE PLAYER: Just to familiarise yourself. DEATHMATCH: 3-6 players ideal. DESCRIPTION: The majority of the maps with nukes are huge in size and not ideal for small LAN games...Talos should suit those games with fewer players. Why is it called Talos? See that gold button... PLAYING: Touch the gold button to make a sacrifice to Talos of those outside his temple. Make sure you're not one of those being sacrificed by getting inside the temple area in time. You have 25 seconds from when the alarm sounds to when the doors into the temple close (30 secs in total from button touch until the sacrifice). All weapons are present bar the Hornet & Lasermines. 1xGluon, 1xGauss, 1xRPG, 2xSnarks, 2xMagnum, 3xMP5, 3xShotgun, 4xGrenades, 4xSatchels. Note that the long jump module *IS* present, just hidden away somewhere. Hope you like Talos. I'd appreciate feedback too...to my email address at the top of this text file (preferably), I'm a regular reader of/poster to the alt.games.half-life Usenet newsgroup, and often read the Radium forum...contact me at any of those places really. It's a major commitment putting in the time to design these damn maps, so I fully welcome any & all constructive encouragement / ideas / criticisms / praises. ** INSTRUCTIONS ** Make sure you put the Gustavo5_Talos.bsp file into the following directory: ...\\valve\maps And of course keep this text file. 8¬) ** CONSTRUCTION ** Base : The base map was Gustavo4_MadBF.bsp (my own map, so no copyright issues). Editor(s) used : Worldcraft v2.1 Known Bugs : Just that I've stretched lots of textures, so decals may be out-of-shape/size. Build Time : 5-10 hrs on top of what MadBF took. Compile machine : Intel PentiumII 300mhz, 8mb Ati@Work AGP, 224mb ram, 12mb Creative Labs Voodoo2, DVD, 120mb floppy, etc, blah blah. Compile Times... QCSG : 24 seconds QBSP2 : 20 seconds QRAD : ~568 seconds VIS : ~1336 seconds New textures : Yes. They are included in the bsp file, not in a seperate wad file. None of the textures are my own work, I just hunted around for what I wanted and shoved them into a wad file. The sources for the textures are; http://www.planethalflife.com/texturestudio & the game Unreal. ** PERMISSIONS ** You MAY NOT sell this map for money without my permission. You MAY NOT alter this map or use it as a base for a new map without my permission. If a magazine wants it on its CD - that's fine - *BUT* you *MUST* send me a copy of the mag and credit myself with it's construction, AND INCLUDE THIS TEXT FILE. If you review this map for a website/magazine, I'd appreciate an email/whatever so I can read the review...not essential, but just to be appreciative of the time I've put into this map. An email only takes a minute. You have yerself a nice day, y'hear? Oh btw, if you see me on a server, I *CANNOT* speak Spanish/Portuguese/Smack talk/whatever...just so I ain't assumed to be a Colombian drug baron like I have been a few times before (or corderoy wearing Uruguayian goat shepherd, that happened once). 8¬) -- Gustavo.
